Overview

Development
- embryo [in seed] has hypocotyl & radicle with apical and small lateral meristems
- on germination radicle becomes primary or tap root
- branch roots grow from primary root
- adventitious roots grow from stem
- sometimes spontaneously
- often in response to stem injury
- may be triggered by hormone
